So a lot of people have been asking me how to I use Twitter Lists? I hear people say they are groups on Facebook or LinkedIn. Not

You put people on a Twitter list, they don’t put themselves on it and they can’t take themselves off the list. Twitter Lists are a way for you to organize your followers into lists just like many of us do with TweetDeck. Once people start using Twitter Lists consistently it will make Twitter truly work like the communication platform is was designed to be, this is a very big innovation.

Set up Twitter lists in various categories that interest you. I have a list of Greig’s Fav Social Media and Greig’s Fav Job Search which are my two main niche audiences. I add experts to these lists and they can see that I put them on the list and so can anyone else. Lists are a great way to find your target audience in that way alone, lists segment your followers just like groups on LinkedIn would.

I can also see all of the people that have put me onto a list, These are the people that really like what I am saying. Look at the lists you are on and follow all of those people, they are your ideal target audience, because they are grouped onto the list.

Also if you regulary follow people from your competitor set up a list to track how many of these people follow you back so you can tell which groups are most interested in your Tweets and focus your efforts where you get the most results.
